Below are the HCS Concerts for the 2019/20 season so please save the dates now in your diary. Further details will be provided shortly:

Saturday 2nd November 2019: Schubert Mass in A Flat, Unfinished Symphony; Chilcott Dances of Time Schubert's great A flat Mass is the most profound of all his masses, clearly displaying his great genius for melody. It is followed by Dances of Time, which sets biblical and twentieth century texts to Chilcott's attractive and characterful music. The concert concludes with the special experience of a purely orchestral work. No one knows why Schubert never completed his famous 'Unfinished' symphony, but the two extant movements are truly sublime.

Saturday 14th December 2019: Christmas Time! Come and kick off your Christmas festivities with Hertford Choral Society and the St Andrews School Choir. Audience participation is a long-standing tradition and we invite you to share seasonal music with us. There are carols for you to sing with us, and yuletide favourites to sit back and enjoy. We guarantee to get you in the mood for the Christmas season!

Saturday 4th April 2020: Bach St Matthew Passion The St Matthew Passion is the crowning achievement of one of the greatest composers of all time, and the culmination of a long tradition of musical Passion settings. Bach's largest, most epic, piece is also perhaps his most personal work. Its heartfelt expression of deep Christian faith also reveals him as one of the greatest evangelists of all time.

Saturday 4th July 2020: Stars and Stripes As our 2020 summer concert falls on July 4th - Independence Day in the USA - the programme will have a strong stateside feel. Join HCS and the West End's Hal Fowler for music from the musicals (Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma to name but one) and songs by Cole Porter, Stephen Foster and many more. HCS will be accompanied by a band of musicians straight from the world of musicals.

All our concerts this season will start at 7.30pm and will be at All Saints Church, Hertford SG13 8AY. Season Tickets are available. If you wish to contact us about any of these concerts, please email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We will also be holding a Workshop on the Bach St Matthew Passion on Saturday 29th February 2020. If you are interested in finding out more, please email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
