On Saturday 18th April, Hertford Choral Society in conjunction this year with The Sele School, Hertford, arranged Raise your Voice 2015. This event, now in its second year attracted 118 delegates to a thoroughly energetic day, consisting of two workshop sessions led by the composer, educator, music director, recording artist and judge on BBC TV "The Choir", Ken Burton. The music that held our attention varied from African American folk songs through to a session of improvised composition via the opening chorale to the St Matthew Passion by JS Bach in full four part harmony; all without a black dot in sight. In fact the only black mark on the day, if there was one, was the weather outside.......it was far too sunny!

Join us for carols

Singers from Hertford Choral Society are helping to enhance the festive season supporting "Carers in Hertfordshire" at two events.

On Saturday afternoon 6th December 2014, between the matinee and evening performances of the current pantomime at Hertford Theatre, the mini-choir were to be found singing carols in the foyer cafe.  They also sang plenty of traditional carols at the Barge pub on Saturday 20th December 2014 in the early evening, which was enjoyed by all.

Merry Christmas

and

a Happy New Year!

The photo above is evidence of HCS in its first appearance at the Hertford Music Festival which this year was known as the Musical Mystery Tour held on Sunday 24th August, 2014.

The lucky customers of Cafe Rouge and other passers by in Parliament Square were entertained for 30 minutes with a range of pieces including Vivaldi's "Gloria" and Parry's "Jerusalem".

Thanks can go to Festival Director Kev Saunders for the invitation - can HCS come back next year please!

The interloper pictured below in the striped blazer has been identified since the event as a certain Charles Spanner visiting the town from Kent where he is the Director of the Dover Community Youth Choir. Thanks then to Charles for adding "weight" to the choir's rendition of "I vow to thee my country"! Some comment was heard about there being "a spanner in the works".

For part of our performance we found ourselves singing against the entertaining sound of the Hackney Colliery Brass Band. Some negotiation initiated by one of our choir members (see picture below) resulted in "quality air time" for both sets of participants.
