This publication, researched and written by two choir members, documents the music, fun and friendship that has been the hallmark of the choir for 80 years.  For the first time, information about its conductors, musical achievements and many aspects of life on the inside of a choir are brought together in a fascinating read. The publication was part-funded by a generous grant from the University of Hertfordshire Heritage Hub and is available to purchase at £12 (including p&p) here

As part of Hertford Choral Society's 80th anniversary celebrations our chairman, Peter Bodden, was interviewed by Chris Hubbard of BOBfm; please listen to the interview here:

Peter was interviewed the morning after the formal launch of the anniversary season when over 80 people attended at Hertford Castle. The event was opened by Mark Prisk MP, himself a chorister with the Parliament choir, and included a musical interlude by Natasha Page accompanied by Sue Graham Smith.

In celebration of its 80 years of history, HCS has been working in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire Heritage Hub on two innovative projects recording and documenting its long history and contributions to the cultural life of the county:

Hertford Choral Society – a history: 1938-2018

An oral history of Hertford Choral Society

The choir has also been working in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire’s Oral History team by recording some of its 135 members and its musical director, talking about their experiences of the choir. The University trained nine choir members to interview fellow singers and the result – a first for a UK choir -  is an engaging oral history, contained in 30 separate interviews, of life inside a choral society.  The recordings can be heard via the HCS pages on the Heritage Hub.
